Hamburger Buns and Gas….

Well, first off Corinne, Abby and I hit the Zoo on Friday after work and had a blast.  I would recommend to go after 3:00-4:00pm on a Friday to miss the crowds.  Its open till 8 so its worth it.  We stopped for dinner at a picnic table where I fed Abby her mush and Corinne got some good old Harveys for the grown ups.  On proceeding to unwrap my double burger with cheese and bacon (mmmmm) a Seaguls flew over Corinne’s head and straight towards my burger snatching up the top part of the bun.  I could not believe how daring this seagull was as I was sitting about 12 inches from my burger.  I felt like a little kids saying “mommy, a seagull stole my bun….” but we had a laugh so it was all good.  I still finished my burger so my belly was happy too.   I guess its Karma for letting french fries soak in vinegar and feeding it to the Gulls on trips to Thunderbay.

Then on Sunday driving home from NewMarket my gas light came on in the car so a dreaded trip to the gas station was imminent.  Abby was due to eat so she was getting a little cranky in the back seat but I didnt want to run out of gas on the way home.  We pulled up to the Petro Canada at 9th line and 16th Ave to fill up which was a little busy.  I pulled up to a pump and saw on the pump to “Please Pay Inside” so I just thought that the credit card function was not working… ah well it wont take too long.  So I filled my car up and headed into the store to pay.  The attendant said that I had pumped twice and that I owed for 2 fills.  I calmly said that I had only pumped once.  She did not believe me and told me that she had me on video pumping twice.  I asked how much was the first fill and told me that it was 10 bucks more.  I also stated to her that my car could not fit that much gas in as the second pump was 42 litres and I only have a 45 litre tank!  I tried and tried to argue and said that it was not me who pumped before!  To make a long story short I just payed the extra 10 bucks as I needed to get home to feed my now screaming kid and a line has started to form behind me (I wish I stayed to argue but my screaming kid will get me running for her…I know Im a sucker for her).  The wifey sent an email to Petro Canada after dinner and hopefully something will come of it.  I guess the last thing I have to say is Your Welcome to the JackAss who left without paying.  Word to the wise, if you pull up to a pump and it says please pay inside, press the button to talk to the attendant to make sure that some asshole didnt leave without paying!  Updates will come later when Corinne gets a response back.

The Nutella Conspiracy

Well, its not a conspiracy but it does get you thinking.  Take a minute and think of the Nutella commercial.  What you are left with is 3 ingredients that are good for you (somewhat).  Hazelnuts (or filberts…lol), Coco Powder and Skim Milk.  Sounds pretty good for you.  The truth is that all of these ingredients only make up about 25 - 30 % of the product.  The main ingredient in Nutella is SUGAR and the second is MODIFIED VEG/PALM OIL.  That does not sound too healthy to me at all.  Im not saying that I wont eat it anymore (PB & Nutella sandwiches kick ass) but it just got me pissed when I saw the commercial selling it as a wholesome food to feed your kids for breakfast that is nice and healthy.  I think that a nice sugar cereal with milk in it is better than that.  Ah well, just proves the point to read your food labels.  Assume Nothing and Challenge Everything!!

Random Update

Well, its almost the long weekend (last of the summer) and I have been thinking what the hell I did this summer?  I guess you wonder that more and more after you have knelt down to DA MAN and succomed to the 9-5 workday!  Summers dont mean as much as they used to.  Why does something have to be done in the summer to mean something.  I did take advantage of BBQing outside and that will also go on until it starts snowing (man I love my ribs on the grill).

Had a blast at Cedar Point this year.  Thanks Matt and Michelle for the being great hosts.  Thanks Andrew for the tips on where the fish are.  I think the Rock Bass liked Dave as he caught the most!

Corinne and I are gearing up for the Move!  AHHHHH.  Well its not that bad, we were both able to take 2 days off (thurs/fri) to do the actual move and the rest of the weekend to set up.  Im going to have to make sure that Corinne does her share of lifting the heavy stuff as my back is a tad sore these days.  Im just joking!!  Some of you who are reading this may get a call asking for some help on the last weekend of September to rearrange furniture in the house.  Oh, come on, you cant say NO to a pregnant woman can you????

Just rented the Doctor Strange DVD but havent had the time to sit down and watch it yet.  I will give you an update as soon as I can Dave.  Im surprised you havent seen it yet?

I guess thats it, Im off to my company BBQ!

Fishing on the Weekend

This past weekend I was finally able to do some fishing with Denny, Ryan and Garito up at Lake Simcoe!  We got a lot of perch and I have to thank Garito for teaching me how to fillet them up nice and  proper!!  However, he did do most of the work.  Garito also cooked them up nice in some old fashion batter!  Denny was the host so props to him and I even think Ryan had fun!!

Im going to have to bug Andrew when he comes back from M&M’s cottage this weekend to see where the nice fishing spots are at Cedar Point (if he is able to get out on the lake).  I even have permission from Corinne to wake up early on Saturday morning to go out to catch some lunch (hopefully).  I just have to wake up on the first alarm as to not wake anyone else!  I apologize to Dave, Brena, Matt and Michelle now if I wake you up.

I’m out and gearing up for the weekend at Cedar Point.  Let hope we don’t get lost again!!

H.O.V. Lanes and why they Bug me!

Where so I start with this subject…hmm.  I am not against these High Occupancy Vehicle lanes at all but how they are managed.  I may have to ask Andrew about this but who decides where to put these lanes?  Is is urban planners?  Have these people ever driven on the highway where they have put in these lanes?  I am only going to comment on the 404 lanes (north and southbound) because that is where I drive almost everyday but I do know that the rest of these lanes are set up the same way.  To start my ranting, if your going to call it a high occupancy lane how come you can drive in it if you have 1 passenger in your car, to me that is not “high” occupancy?  If I drive in the HOV lane on the highway with a passenger this is legal, but I cant drive in the HOV lanes in the city streets of Toronto because I need at least two passengers, shouldnt this be the same?

Also, how come they put these lanes on the far left of the highway, which is a nightmare for anyone using it if they are not taking the lane to the end?  To cut across 4 lanes of traffic in rush hour is not very safe (never mind pissing off the other drivers who already give you an evil grin as you wiz by them and then try to cut in front so you can exit, trust me, people will not give you the time of day as it is).  I have also seen the HOV motorist merging where they are not supposed to (there is a solid line for a reason people) so they are able to cut across to get to there exit (safely).

One last rant is that about half the cars I see in these lanes do not have more than just the driver.  I mean, maybe there is a child in the back or a smaller individual that I cannot see so I dont get mad all the time but usually it is a middle age man in his nice convertible sports car with the top down just flying past everyone.  I guess he can afford the $110.00 ticket.

I think they should of put these lanes in the far right of the highway so more people can use them, especially transit vehciles.  I definatly would car pool with Corinne more if this was the case, but because we get off at Sheppard there is no way in hell that I would try to use the HOV lane and then cut across the 4 lanes.  I do see a problem with this though, especially during Rush Hour when people are trying to merge from the on ramp to the HOV to the regular lanes and nobody is going to let them in.  But I do think that this would be a better idea.

Ahh, that feels better.

Geek-Gasm Rawks!

Well, I finally saw Dave’s show on Sunday with Corinne, Rachael (Corinne’s Mom) and Mum and we all had a blast.  I thought that the jokes all hit home pretty hard, especially the one about the only way to really appreciate your action figures is to open them!  The only part I didnt like was when they brought up the sad passing of Optimus Prime (RIP).  Im just joking Dave!

Im so proud of ya brotha!  Keep up the good work and I am nervously waiting to experience the culture myself at the Action Figure expo in September with you.

RIP Marquise Hill

Marquise Hill of the New England Patriot’s body was found yesterday after he fell off his jetski in a lake in New Orleans.  He was with another passenger who was able to swing to a buoy while Marquise was swept away with the current and found a day later.

I dont want to take anything away from this tragedy but neither of the two were wearing life jackets.  Just another chilling reminder to always wear a lifejacket while on the water.

Be Safe!
